Biography
All music on this site is written by D.C. Hathaway and performed by D.C. and some of his label mates at Third Rock Records. D.C. Hathaway has been entertaining ageless audiences from Boston to Nashville and to Las Vegas with his talent and versatility since 1968 at the age of 12. Though raised in a small, central New Hampshire town (Claremont), D.C. was influenced with Country and Southern Gospel Music by artists such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, The Chuck Wagon Gang and The Carter Family. These influences led him to form his first group, All His Children, performing throughout New England for Country and Gospel audiences for nearly 3 years. At the age of 16 D.C. made regular appearances on The Twin State Jamboree radio show on WTSV as a member of The Dusters where he occasionally performed with The Baron Of Country Music, Dick Curless. He re-routed his musical talents the next few years towards Rock and Roll and Rhythm and Blues occasionally sharing the stage with his dearest high school friend Carey Rush. Unlike his fellow high school students that experienced typical summer vacations, D.C. and his band TRAZ (formed with his good friend Jerry Donatelli) spent summers on stage opening for oldies performers Gary U.S. Bonds, Chuck Berry, The Shirelles, The Cowsills, Danny and The Juniors and Frankie Valle and The Four Seasons. TRAZ called the Holiday Inn in White River Jct., Vermont home 6 nights a week for 5 years. In 1979 D.C. brought his talents to Boston where he performed not only as a solo artist but also as a bass player and vocalist with his dear friend John Penny and The John Penny Band along with Robin Right, Liz Boardo and another dear friend, Elvis impersonator Stan Jr. Nashville recording artists JoDee Messina, Blake Shelton, The Judds, Mickey Gilley, Ricky Skaggs, Hank Thompson, Barbara Fairchild, Louise Mandrell, Dave Dudley, Freddy Fender, Penny DeHaven and Ferlin Husky have all shared the stage with D.C. Hathaway and his talents. Such talents led him to several Massachusetts Country Music Awards Association (M.C.M.A.A.) and New Hampshire Country Music Awards Association (N.H.C.M.A.) honors for Band Of The Year, Male Vocalist, Bass Player, Album Of The Year and Best Duo with female vocalist Chris Anders. In 1985 D.C. moved to Nashville to pursue another musical passion, songwriting. Although he had been writing since his early teens, D.C. didnt really know how good or bad he was as a songwriter. During his pursuit he settled in Dickson, Tennessee where he got a job at WDKN/WQZQ as the morning drive disc jockey. This popular radio station was soon to be the home of The Grand Old Hatchery radio show of which D.C. was the FIRST bass Player in the Hatchery Band and performed with Speck Rhodes, the toothless, plaid-suited comedian from The Porter Waggoner Show. In 1992 D.C. Hathaway was forced to return to New England due to his fathers long illness. He got a job as the overnight D.J. at Boston's Country Club WCLB and was the host of Country Classics heard Saturdays and Sundays on sister station WKOX. During this time his supportive fans encouraged him to perform as Kenny Rogers. Although he never TRIED to sound like the legendary performer,he just did, so D.C. gave the fans what they wanted. Audiences across the country were awed by D.C.s tribute to Kenny Rogers for 3 years. He has performed at The Tropicana Hotel and Hacienda Hotel in Las Vegas. D.C. Hathaway now makes his home in Imperial Beach, CA (just outside of San Diego) entertaining audiences as a solo artist or lending his talents to others as an established singer, songwriter, producer, musician (6 string bassist, acoustic & power rhythm guitarist), talent developer and guitar teacher for beginners. Currently he is hard at work in his recording studio SEABEAN STUDIOS WEST in Imperial Beach, CA. recording a NEW CD and working on a Bachelor's Degree in Music at Southwestern College that proves you're NEVER too old to learn. Every summer D.C. loves teaching gifted students Music and The Art Of Songwriting at Gateways Summer School at the San Diego Jewish Academy.
